News: Sask Film Flourishes Sports: Cougar hockey on the prowl

Two years ago Corner Gas leapt into living rooms across the nation, creating a smash hit that has proved popular across the country. Executive Producer and co founder of Verté Films Virginia Thompson describes the success of Corner Gas and how it couldn’t have been done without the little province that could, Saskatchewan.
“Eight years ago people looked at us as if we were insane. They would say ‘you’re going to Saskatchewan? Are you crazy?’” said Thompson. Today those people are eating crow.

Forget Shakespeare’s winter of discontent.
For the University of Regina Cougars men’s hockey team, the soundtrack this summer was more the Beach Boy’s Endless Summer.
It was an off-season where Bruce Thompson resigned as coach, and then a search committee went through a list of applicants and came up with Bob Lowes. Then less than a week later, Lowes resigned for personal reasons and then the committee selected Blaine Sautner, formerly head coach of the North Battleford North Stars, to pick up the reins of a team that seemed to under-perform more often than not last season.

Remember the movie Problem Child about that bratty little orphan who had some major family problems? Of course you do, who could forget the little scamp who filled a lemonade jar with urine and sold it to his crotchety neighbour?
Okay, now picture Problem Child in comic book form, only loaded with sharp jabs at pop-culture and way more potty-mouth. That’s pretty much what you get when Rob Dunlop and Peter Lumby come together and create Tozzer 2, a painfully funny comic book mini-series.

Call it bad luck, karma, or fate, but I recently lost my wallet.
While I was going through the process of replacing my life in card form I thought back to an old episode of Seinfeld. The basic premise for the episode was that George was on a good luck streak while Elaine was suffering from terrible luck; meanwhile Jerry managed to always break even.
