Cougar highs and lows for weekend

The University of Regina men’s volleyball team travelled to Winnipeg for a tournament this weekend. The men’s team lost to the University of Manitoba Bisons in three sets, 25-17, 25-19 and 25-18.

The team struggled, losing to the Winnipeg Wesmen three sets to one, and then lost in three sets in their two remaining games.

The team went winless in the tournament and are preparing for its next game against the McMaster Marauders at the U of R gym on October 9, and then for the East/West Classic from October 10 to October 12 at the University of Regina gym.

The University of Regina women’s soccer team continued to struggle with its season. The women played three games in a four game road trip to British Columbia.

They started their road trip with a difficult 7-0 loss to the University of Victoria Vikes, allowing six goals in the second half.

The Cougars then travelled to face the Trinity Western University Spartans where Kerri Burgess scored the Cougars lone goal of the game in the 78th minute as the Cougars’ 6-1 loss.

The team ended its road trip against the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds. The girls allowed four goals in each half in an 8-0 loss to UBC.

The three losses have knocked the girls out of playoff contention with an 0-7-2 record. Their next action is this weekend with two games in Calgary before coming home for games against U Vic, UBC and the U of A to wrap up the season.

The University of Regina cross country running team beat its provincial rival University of Saskatchewan Huskies in the University of Saskatchewan Open Cross Country Meet on October 4.

The men’s team placed sixth out of the 11 teams in the competition with Sandy Bain as the top Cougar, who came in 13th place.

The women’s team placed eighth out of the 11 teams with Lorinda Moroschan as the top Cougar coming in 36th place.

The next action for the cross country running team is on October 11 in Regina for the University of Regina Open.
